Bridget Sullivan Mermel, CFP®, CPA

Hi. My name is Bridget Sullivan Mermel. I started a fee-only financial planning firm, Sullivan Mermel, Inc. We especially enjoy working with attorneys, small business owners, near retirees, and clients interested in socially responsible investing.

We practice in a small niche of the industry called fee-only, which focuses on giving un-biased advice. We don't take commission, get kick-backs, or sell products. We have no hidden agendas. Our focus is on giving our clients the best comprehensive advice possible.

I started out with a tax practice in 1997. I could see that clients wanted and needed help not just with their taxes, but with other areas of their personal finances, too. When I found out about fee-only advising, with its emphasis on giving bias-free advice, I was hooked! I love helping people understand and improve their fiances.

I worked as manager and district manager during the start-up phase of Starbucks. I also worked supporting high profile litigation and in the back office of a derivatives firm.

I have a BA in Accounting and Marketing from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a Masters in Liberal Arts from DePaul University in Chicago. I am a Certified Financial Planner™ as well as a Certified Public Accountant.

Ted Feight, CFP®

I have been an asset, financial, life and wealth manager for 36 years. During that time the profession has been in a state of rapid evolution. What my core clients expect of me today is very different from what they expected 36 years ago When I started, clients were just beginning to invest and had little. Now many are near and or are retired, and have accumulated a great deal.
I believe I have given my clients peace of mind and comfort that occurs when they have had a trusted relationship with someone for many years. What keeps my clients coming back to us is not product, but the confidence that someone is looking out for their best interest, listening to what they are saying and serving as a partner in helping them get where they want to be. Who else has asked the questions about who they are, where do they want to go, and what drives them? I have been my clients' sounding board, confidant, coach, guru and in the end the stronger the relationship we have had, the greater were their successes. We do not always have the "Be your client's best friend" type of relationship but, in the end, I want to be their "go to" guy when they need questions answered or need help.

New widows, especially, are in such a fragile emotional state, vulnerable to acting on inaccurate, or even worse, unethical advice provided by untrustworthy sources. She presents information in an easy-to-understand manner, along with issues of the heart, to help widows face their very different life ahead. This unique book includes a beautiful format, helping to heal a woman's soul while focusing on money issues.

The March 2011 issue of "Your Guide to a Richer Retirement," a newsletter produced by Kiplinger's Retirement Report, recommends Moving Forward on Your Own: A Financial Guidebook for Widows. U.S. News and World Report also featured the book in a special story.

Widows transitioning into their new financial life may use this book on their own or with the guidance of a professional. It may be given as a gift to a family member or friend who is widowed. Some organizations using the guidebook are: many U.S. Army posts; the national ELCA Foundation; hospice services; community support groups; funeral homes and congregations.

Michael Helveston, CFP®, CRPC®
Brian Frederick, JD, CFP®

Brian Frederick is a financial planner who focuses his practice on being a trusted advisor to successful Generation X professionals, helping them align their financial affairs with the lives they want for themselves and their families. He believes that financial advice should be provided by someone who isn’t compensated by sales commissions and that the advice be holistic in nature - not just looking at your investment portfolio or selling you an insurance policy. He’s also discovered that most practitioners who meet these requirements primarily serve clients who are ‘older’ and ‘richer’.
Brian has been interested in money and financial matters since watching Richie Rich cartoons as a young boy. Over the years, his understanding of building wealth has become more realistic – first by going to the public library with his father, a retired university economics professor, to read investment periodicals; and then later by his riding his small Roth IRA up during Internet Bubble, only to have it come crashing down when the bubble burst.
Brian started his career by working as a commissioned stockbroker – something he describes as being a used-car salesman when he really wanted to be a mechanic. He then moved into several customer-facing credit and collection roles before ultimately becoming a non-commissioned financial advisor. For the five years prior to starting Stillwater, Brian worked for the investment and financial advice division of auto insurance giant USAA.
Brian is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He also graduated from the University of Nebraska Law College where he was awarded an academic scholarship. He has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional (CFP®) since 2006; is a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), having completed extensive education in professional financial planning; has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) which is the highest-level designation available in the life insurance profession; and is a Certified Wealth Strategist ® (CWS®) which focuses on the practical advice related to the thirteen common issues that high net worth individuals face. He is an inactive member of the Nebraska and Arizona bar associations.
Brian lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife and two young sons. Outside of work and family, his passions include Kansas City Royals baseball, driving his Corvette, and cooking barbeque on his Big Green Egg.

Dan Moynihan
Terry Prather

Terry Prather tries to strike a healthy balance between today and tomorrow.

In his position as a Wealth Planner with Keystone Financial Consulting, Terry helps families use their financial resources to accomplish what’s most important to them. “I help families evaluate and balance their long-term financial independence with all their other life goals,” he says. “These families often want to be responsible with the financial resources available to them to do good things for family and the causes they’re passionate about. We all make financial decisions every day, and I have the privilege of helping clients make these decisions in context of their long-term picture.”

Had he not found college physics to be boring, he might not have ever become a wealth planner. Initially Terry pursued an engineering degree, but lacked enthusiasm for the physics classes in his major. When he switched colleges and changed majors, the pieces began to fall into place. He discovered an aptitude for accounting, and after graduation found himself drawn to financial planning. This desire eventually led Terry to earn the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM certification and then pursue a Master of Science in Financial Services, and each day he uses this knowledge to help families find that healthy balance between today and tomorrow.

“I enjoy being face-to-face with our clients, and I like being able to explain the more technical aspects, explain how their strategy works,” says Terry. “We like it when clients walk away feeling they received a lot of value, that we’ve used their resources effectively.”

As a man with a strong, faith-filled Christian background, Terry devotes a good bit of his free time toward music ministry in his church, New Life Church in Newburgh. Terry and his wife Paula share their talents through singing and playing guitar (Terry) and keyboards (Paula) and are sometimes joined by their three children in this endeavor. They also like to spend time as a family outdoors, visiting Holiday World and Paoli Peaks, riding bikes, hiking, and swimming.

Richard Archer, CFA, CFP, MBA

Growing up, I experienced the financial stress and anxiety that divorce and unexpected unemployment can bring. My family's financial instability came while I was attending junior high school in a wealthy Indiana suburb, surrounded by kids with gold cards, the latest fashions, and spring break trips to faraway places. This created a strong desire in me for financial security and led me to work very hard in school, taking advantage of every opportunity.

Everyone has a different relationship with money. Some of my creative clients don't like to think about it and would rather spend their energy pursuing their art. Other clients save aggressively so they have the freedom to retire early. I feel privileged to get to speak confidentially with all types of people and learn about a private topic most people don't often share. It's my calling to help people have a positive relationship with their money and to view it as a tool to help them lead the lives they desire.
